'a terrific band ...overflowing with spirit and a compelling energy. Their accmpanying blend of roots-rock, country Celtic flavourings and a full-bodied melodic musical assault creates a powerful live combination...' Rock n Reel Magazine.'Dorset based State of Undress ...don't just talk the talk, they get out there and walk the walk ..' Maverick Magazine'..their mix of folk, traditional, rock, blues, country all make for this band's distinct quality and individual sound that make the band so unique.' Scrumpy n Western (online version: www.mag4livemusic.co.uk ) State of Undress are a rocky rootsy 'fiddlesome' band from Dorset playing a distinctive brand of original music. Their guitar-based songs interlaced with violin in addition to drums and bass move from the thought-provoking and evocative to the shamelessly foot-tapping. They are having a fabulous 2009. They have a summer full of gigs, festivals and fairs and on 1st June their new single 'One More Shot (of you boy)' was released on their own Rosebud label. 'One More Shot (of you boy)' will be available as a download from iTunes and all major online sites. It has been produced by Billy Bragg's long-time producer Grant Showbiz who has also worked with The Smiths, The Fall and Nizlopi - so the band are in good company! Grant has taken an older State of Undress song - already established as a gig favourite - and worked some real production magic on it giving it a sound that is unmistakeably State of Undress ...but with a little commercial edge! www.itunes.com/stateofundress www.indiestore.com/stateofundress What they’ve been saying about ‘One More Shot (of you boy)’… One More Shot (Of You Boy) : Bubblier than an Aero, State Of Undress are a kind of rootsy fiddle band and they’ve got the kind of effervescence that can’t but fail to set toes-a-tapping and mouths a-smiling. This is a carefree and uptempo slice of summer and if you’re a fan of rootsy fiddle bands then check ‘em out. GM The Crack magazine
'One More Shot ( of you boy )’ is guaranteed to put a smile on your face - the best Summer single of 2009 so far. Stuart Sharkey, Hope FM
‘It’s a rippa!’ Peter Shaw, TLC
'One More Shot (of you boy)' will also feature on the band's new 7-track mini-album 'Livin' It, Lovin' it!' which they aim to have ready for the start of July. They are recording it at The G-Spot studio in Bournemouth owned by State of Undress bass-player, Malcolm Windett. As well as all their recording work , State of Undress are really enjoying the start of the Festival Season. They've already played the Rivers Meet and Heritage Festival in Christchurch and the Abbey Hill Steam and Vintage Rally in Yeovil. They are particularly looking forward to playing at The Two Rivers Folk Festival in Chepstow in July with Seth Lakeman headlining ; and also The New Quay Wales Festival near Aberystwyth in August where Dr Feelgood are the headline band. You can also catch the band in live session on BBC Radio Wales on the Alan Thompson evening show on 6th July; and the Mark Simon Drivetime show on Radio Ceredigion on Friday 31st July both timed to fit in with these lovely Welsh festivals. Other summer highlights include their first visit to Cornwall at the Sunshine Maker Camp-Over at Maker Heights near Torpoint , a whole weekend of gigs at the delightful Beggars Fair in Romsey and of course their fourth year at The Great Dorset Steam Fair where they are playing all day in the Folk Tent on Saturday 5th September. So, what follows festival season? Well, another Autumn tour of arts centres, theatres and quirky music venues which will take State of Undress from Cornwall to Newcastle! Details of all these performances are on the gigs page. In addition to all of that, their live CD Caught in the Act! (Catalogue no; SOU004 Rosebud Records) which they released in the middle of 2008 received some really warm reviews. Rock n Reel in particular praised its 'compelling energy' and 'lung-busting Joie de vivre'! It is available from Borders in Southampton and Bournemouth, on-line retailers such as Amazon and Play.com and of course direct from us - see 'newlivecd' page - and at gigs! It is also newly available to download in its entirety or individual tracks from iTunes and indiestore. Caught in the Act! is a 13 track CD that really captures a typical State of Undress performance - shaky eggs included!
Live Set The band's live set contains mostly their own material and moves from the atmospheric Spellbound and 'Beyond Repair' through the almost bluesy jazzy tones of 'Ghosts of Wasted Chances' to the foot-tapping exuberance of 'Ain't Nothin' 'Until Today' (including a fab drum solo) and 'This Time'. New songs in the set include The Love Detectives - a completely eccentric song , now a gig favourite, defying all description which could only have been written by Malcolm the bass player! ; Mudeford Mood - a haunting melody from Alan featuring Keith on African drum with soaring fiddle from Sam, and Charlie on a four-foot rain-stick; Plenty More Fish in the Sea and the storming 'Country Girl' both written by our great friend Skipper. All these new songs will be on the 'Livin' It, Lovin' it!' mini-album. As you know, they don't do many covers but when they do, they choose a song that they completely love and put their own distinctive stamp on it. So new to the set is 'Wagon Wheel' by The Old Crow Medecine Show. Gigs usually end up as a bit of a party and as anyone who has been to one of their gigs knows, they have a bit of a thing going on with some shaky eggs!
State of Undress are a difficult band to pigeon hole. Their music is provocative, thoughtful, raunchy, fun and original: a sound that is all their own. State of Undress consists of Charlie Rose (lead vocals); Alan Rose (guitars and vocals); Samantha Jane (electric and acoustic violin); Malcolm Windett (bass and electric upright bass); and Keith Fletcher (drums, African Drums; Congas and percussion);
Charlie's shaky eggs now sponsored by Classic Drums, Boscombe.
